CCTV vs Electric Fencing: What Does Your Cape Town Property Actually Need?

CCTV and electric fencing solve different problems, and most properties benefit from thinking about them separately before deciding what to install.

What electric fencing does well

An electric fence is a physical deterrent at your property's boundary, discouraging entry before it happens. It's particularly effective for larger perimeters, like estates, wine farms and freestanding homes with clear boundary walls.

What CCTV does well

CCTV doesn't physically stop entry, but it records evidence, allows remote monitoring, and often acts as its own deterrent once visible. It's especially useful for apartment entrances, driveways and areas a fence can't cover.

Why many Cape Town properties use both

A fence covers the boundary; cameras cover the gaps a fence can't, like front doors, garages and internal courtyards. For larger properties in particular, we often recommend combining both rather than treating them as alternatives.
